Baltimore is a classic American city and a vibrant place to retire, with its world-class local attractions and a one-hour drive to the Greater Washington, D.C., region. Although Resorts of Augsburg has a host of amenities for older adults right on campus, residents (and their loved ones) will enjoy being so close to all that Baltimore has to offer. Resorts of Augsburg is less than two miles from I-695 (the Baltimore beltway) and about 20 minutes from the city's prime attractions - sports, parks, museums, shopping and more.
Founded as one of America's oldest cities, Baltimore has long been known as a picturesque harbor town known for its steamed crabs and Old Bay flavors. The city pays homage to its heritage but has become something new, a thriving medley of art and business, history and vision. A few miles from Resorts of Augsburg, you will find Druid Hill Park, home of the Maryland Zoo, the Baltimore Museum of Art (home of the largest collections of Matisse in the world) and the Howard Peters Rawlings Conservatory & Botanic Gardens.
A day in the city would require a trip to Little Italy for a meal, a visit to the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture, and an afternoon in Federal Hill, where must-see sites include the American Visionary Art Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Industry, and, of course, Fort McHenry, for the history buffs. Plus, there is always a trip to the iconic Camden Yards for an Orioles game or a visit to M&T Bank Stadium for a Ravens game.
If you hop on I-695, you are about an hour from anywhere in the nation's capital, where you will find more activities than you could do in a single lifetime: monument tours, museums, theaters, sports, music, history and restaurants from almost every international cuisine. In addition to the city itself, the nearby towns of Arlington, Alexandria, Annapolis and others will fill your days with exploration
